ScaleMax Cloud

Getting started

First SSH login, changing the root password, and the browser terminal or console.

On this page

When provisioning finishes — typically under three minutes — you get a “server is ready” mail and a server page in the dashboard. Both carry the public hostname (vmN.box.scalemaxcloud.com), the SSH port, and the generated root password. Change that password before you do anything else. Your server also has a private address (10.10.10.x). It is not reachable from the internet, so the dashboard does not show it.

First SSH login

From a terminal on your laptop. Replace the placeholders with the values on your server's Overview, under Servers. On a server with an app, they are under For developers: connect with SSH. SSH is the first port in your NAT block, so the port is not 22. Use the hostname, not the private address.

ssh -p <ssh-port> root@vmN.box.scalemaxcloud.com

Paste the generated password when prompted. Then:

passwd

Choose a password you will not reuse. The handover password existed so you could log in once; it should not remain the login.

New servers include one ScaleMax Cloud support SSH key so we can help when you ask. It is listed under Settings → Rescue → SSH keys in the server menu, and you can remove it at any time; we do not log in to your server unless you ask us to or it is needed to stop abuse or a security incident.

Web terminal and browser console

A root shell in the browser, with nothing to install. On the AI agent box image, Open terminal at the top of the server page opens the web terminal over HTTPS. Every other image has Open console there instead, the browser console. Full notes: Web terminal.

What this platform is not

There is no IPv6 on this platform. Outbound TCP port 25 is blocked until you ask. See Ports and networking.
